A MAN suffered a gunshot wound to his leg after a group of men playing soccer were shot at in Carlton.

Armed Crime Squad detectives are investigating the incident, which occurred at about 10.30pm on February 23.

Police were told the group were playing soccer behind an apartment block in Drummond St when they heard loud bangs.

They then saw four males, perceived to be of African appearance, standing in a nearby basketball court.

All four had their faces covered with bandanas, and two were holding firearms.

The suspects then fired four shots towards the group.

The victim and his friends ran to their cars and fled the scene.

“The victim, a 25-year-old Kings Park man, realised in the car he had been shot and was taken to hospital in a stable condition but has since been released,” Victoria Police spokeswoman Belinda Batty said.

“Investigators are keen to speak to any witnesses that were in the Carlton area at the time of the shooting or anyone with information.”

An information caravan will be set up today between 7pm and 9pm in Drummond St.

Anyone with information, contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
